What is CEFR and how does Speecup use it?
The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) is the recognized global standard dividing language ability into six tiers: A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, and C2. Speecup maps every learning cycle and SPELT exam question directly to these benchmarks.
How does the SPELT exam work?
SPELT is our adaptive proficiency examination. It measures five core competencies (Reading, Listening, Grammar, Writing, and Speaking) through an algorithmic engine that adjusts item difficulty in real time.
Can I ever lose my earned level or certificate?
No. A core foundational principle is that proven progress is never revoked. If you take a subsequent SPELT attempt and do not hit the next milestone, your existing certified tier remains intact.
How long is the certificate valid?
For active members, your digital certificate remains continuously verified and reflects your validated progression. Non-member standalone certificates remain valid for one year from issuance.
Do I have to pay to get started?
No. The Discovery plan is completely free and provides immediate access to introductory Main Path cycles and Parallel Path activities. Premium plans are available for additional SPELT vouchers and advanced features.
Is Speecup just a game?
No. While Speecup employs deliberate gamification mechanics (Reputation Points, leaderboard tiers, and daily streaks) to promote consistency, the core platform is an institutional learning system built on statistical rigor.
